Temperature: 19°C high; 13°C low Season: spring Travel time from UK: 2 hours 35 minutes Time difference: GMT +1 Nothing brings a spring to the step quite like the sight of Italy's glorious Amalfi coast. Particularly in March, when its vertiginous twists are bathed in a daily average eight hours of sun. Cliffs plunge into the Tyrrhenian Sea, topped with grand palazzos and smart hotels. Narrow, Roman lanes are stuffed with limoncello stalls flogging the boozy spoils of Sorrento's famous fruit. Its snoozy air and pastel-coloured houses are pure Italian cinema: you might even swear you've seen a young Sophia Loren looking impossibly saucy by the quay. Do as the Italians do and spend the lazy, romantic days enjoying a long aperitivo . Don't miss fresh fritto misto at Marina Grande, the town's old fishing harbour, or Michelin-starred Il Buco in the cellars of an old monastery, where chef Peppe Aversa serves seasonal ingredients under a stone-hewn, vaulted ceiling. CITY EXPERIENCES SECOND-BEST MONTH

FOR PERMIT VALUATION IN CITY'S HISTORY

More than $112.8 million in

permits issued in May

RAPID CITY, SD—Rapid City experienced its second-highest month ever for building permit valuation in May, issuing 337 permits with a combined total valuation of more than $112.8 million ($112,847,038).

May's valuation total shattered the previous record for permit valuation in the month of May, set last year when permits were valued at $44.4 million.  In addition, last month's issuance of 337 building permits was the best month for permits issued since July 2021.

The only month with a permit valuation total higher than last month was in November 2019 when the City issued 362 permits with a combined valuation total of $123.4 million.  In November 2019, the City issued the largest permit in the community's history for The Monument's Summit Arena.

For the year, the City has issued 1,188 building permits with a combined valuation total of $228 million, the highest January-to-May total in the city's history.  By comparison, last year's January-to-May total stood at $174.3 million on its way to a record $393.5 million for the year in permit valuation.

"It was a very busy month for our staff in building services last month," said Community Development Director Vicki Fisher.  "It's not uncommon to end each month with a handful of million-dollar plus permits but with eleven permits valued at more than one million dollars, including four that topped the five million dollar value, that's a great month."

The City's Building Services Division issued 11 permits last month with a valuation total of more than $1 million each.  Leading the way was a permit issued to the Rapid City Area School District with Scull Construction, Inc. as contractor. The permit is valued at $61 million for the new South Middle School at 2 Indiana Street.  A permit valued at $8,378,000 was issued to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Rangel Construction Company as contractor for a cathedral addition at 520 Cathedral Drive.

A permit valued at $7.5 million was issued last month to Tallgrass Apartments II LLC for the Tallgrass Phase 2, Building 2 project with Mountaintop Construction, Inc. as contractor.  The facility will be located at 2258 E. Philadelphia Street.  A permit valued at $5,416,035 was issued to CR Lloyd Associates, Inc. with Lloyd Companies as contractor for the Heartland Heights Apartments at 413 Degeest Drive.  A permit valued at $2 million was issued to Buren Properties LLC with Complete Contracting Solutions as contractor for an addition to a facility at 7201 Mount Rushmore Road.

Four permits valued at $1.8 million each were issued to Johnson Ranch Apartments LLC with Select Construction as contractor for apartment buildings at 2036, 2040, 2044 and 2048 Provider Boulevard.  A permit valued at $1.2 million was issued to Enchanted LLC with Zeisler Construction LLC as contractor for an apartment building at 4805 Fifth Street.  A roofing permit valued at $1,054,223 was issued to Roth Farms LLC with Stellar Restoration Services, LLC as contractor for the facility at 2135 Dakota Craft Drive.
