Where to go on holiday in March 2023 - Condé Nast Traveller

Temperature: 19°C high; 13°C low Season: spring Travel time from UK: 2 hours 35 minutes Time difference: GMT +1 Nothing brings a spring to the step quite like the sight of Italy's glorious Amalfi coast. Particularly in March, when its vertiginous twists are bathed in a daily average eight hours of sun. Cliffs plunge into the Tyrrhenian Sea, topped with grand palazzos and smart hotels. Narrow, Roman lanes are stuffed with limoncello stalls flogging the boozy spoils of Sorrento's famous fruit. Its snoozy air and pastel-coloured houses are pure Italian cinema: you might even swear you've seen a young Sophia Loren looking impossibly saucy by the quay. Do as the Italians do and spend the lazy, romantic days enjoying a long aperitivo . Don't miss fresh fritto misto at Marina Grande, the town's old fishing harbour, or Michelin-starred Il Buco in the cellars of an old monastery, where chef Peppe Aversa serves seasonal ingredients under a stone-hewn, vaulted ceiling. On the Market: ‘We feel that we are on vacation,’ says owner of re-done condo in Palm Beach - Palm Beach Daily News

With uninterrupted sea views, the two-bedroom unit with a den is on the 10th floor of the South End's Concordia East tower.

Like many Palm Beach homeowners, Marcie and Lou Collie started out renting. They leased oceanview penthouse No. 1 at Concordia East on the South End — and later began shopping for an apartment to buy.

"We looked at 50 condominiums, but we loved it so much here, I said, 'You know what? There's no better place,'" Marcie Collie recalls. "It's such a premier unit and so private. What we found at other condominiums, you look out your bedroom window and into someone else's. Here, you can't see a single, solitary person."

They signed the contract for the penthouse at 3560 S. Ocean Blvd. in 2018.

Marcie credits the building's height and its design for delivering the views that sold her on the apartment.

"Being direct oceanfront and on the 10th floor — taller than the surrounding buildings — it has a straight-on view and doesn't twist and turn. We feel like we are on a cruise ship," she says.

Lately, though, they have been missing their daughters, who live in North Carolina. So the Collies have decided to spend more time at their homes in Raleigh and Wrightsville Beach.

They've listed their two-bedroom apartment — with two-and-a-half bathrooms and a convertible den — for sale for $1.595 million. With 2,458 square feet of living space inside and out, the penthouse is being marketed by Stephen Hall, an agent with Compass Florida. The penthouse will be sold with garage parking for one car.

Even though they loved the apartment from day one, they changed it to better suit them. The project ended up being a gut renovation and was carried out with the help of Cindy Ray Interiors, Marcie says: "It was just a cement square."

The living room and kitchen take up the southeast corner. The living area opens to an oceanview wraparound balcony, and the kitchen opens to another balcony with sea views.

Directly south of the foyer, a guest bedroom was transformed into a den that can double as a smaller bedroom, and they used the remaining space to create a formal dining room.

At the other end of the unit are the master suite and a guest bedroom suite, both with private balconies overlooking the ocean and pool area.

In addition to reworking the floor plan, the Collies raised the ceilings and put in large-format porcelain tile flooring. They also redid the kitchen and the bathrooms.

On the Market: 'It's magical,' says Susan Markin about her lakeside compound, listed at $45 million

The sleek kitchen was fitted with white custom-designed cabinetry and stainless-steel appliances.

"It has marble counters — we had to use four slabs — as it extends to include a waterfall marble table for (informal) dining," Marcie says.

They also chose new lighting fixtures and added a pop-up TV that can be easily hidden away — a clever space-saving measure.

The master bathroom is finished with marble flooring and countertops, a whirlpool tub and a tiled walk-in shower. The guest bathroom is tiled, and the half-bath is finished in a metallic paint. The layout also includes a laundry room.

Just north of the Lake Worth Bridge and developed in 1982, the oceanfront tower has 77 units and shares amenities with Concordia West, a lakefront tower across the coastal road. Amenities at the full-service development include two pools, a billiard room, a gym, two party rooms, saunas and a conference room. There's a large parking lot in addition to the garage.

"Palm Beach is so special, and I just hope that the new owners will enjoy the penthouse as much as we have," Marcie says. "Every time we walk in we feel that we are on vacation."
