Forest Holidays has limited availability at two of its sites, including the newly opened Delamere Forest in Cheshire. A two-bedroom Golden Oak cabin, with hot tub and log-burner, costs £1,065 for four nights from 14 February, forestholidays.co.uk.
At Landal North Lakes Lodges, elegant cabins have plenty of space on the Brayton Park Estate, between Carlisle and the Cumbrian coast – and the Lake District is within easy reach. A luxury two-bedroom lodge with lake views and a hot tub is £975 for four nights from 21 February.
Landal Greenparks has half-term availability at several more of its sites, including Piperdam in the Highlands, Whitbarrow Village in Cumbria, Barton Pines in Devon, Kenwick Woods in the Lincolnshire Wolds, Rockingham Forest in Northamptonshire, Gwel an Mor and Clowance in Cornwall and the Dylan Coastal Resort in Carmarthen, landal.co.uk.
Macdonald's Spey Valley Resort in Aviemore is a good base for exploring the Cairngorms National Park, with its reindeer herd and ski centre, where snow is currently patchy but the Learners Zone is in good condition thanks to fan guns; there is also a tubing centre nearby. Canopy & Stars has a handful of self-catering properties, including Buck's Coppice, a floating timber-clad cabin in Dorset, which sleeps four and costs £740 for four nights from 21 February. Overlooking a private lake and positioned near ancient woodland, it is kept cosy with a log-burner, and coastal walks near Bridport are within easy reach. canopyandstars.co.uk.
Several Parkdean Resorts are sold out during half-term, but some Cornish and Scottish options are available for four-night breaks from 14 February, such as St Minver near Wadebridge, where lodges cost from £239 for up to four guests. There is an indoor pool, sauna, restaurant and bar, while Rock, Padstow, Port Isaac, Tintagel, the Camel Trail and Bodmin Moor are all close.
The Wemyss Bay park in Renfrewshire has a climbing wall, indoor pool, nature trail and playground near Glasgow, as well as being close to the ferry to Bute and within driving distance of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Glamping can be an option in the depths of winter, provided there is warmth on offer. Hollings Hill Farm in the Malverns in Herefordshire is a working dairy farm with safari-style tents and log cabins that are equipped with log-burners, hot tubs and beds with duvets. Five nights is £595 for up to six from 14 February, featherdown.co.uk.
Working farms elsewhere in the country welcome overnight guests throughout the year through farmstay.co.uk, and some will be entering lambing season. Examples include Courtyard Barn in Templecombe, Somerset, which costs £670 for four nights from 17 February for six.
