Where to go on holiday in March 2023 - Condé Nast Traveller

Image
Temperature: 19°C high; 13°C low Season: spring Travel time from UK: 2 hours 35 minutes Time difference: GMT +1 Nothing brings a spring to the step quite like the sight of Italy's glorious Amalfi coast. Particularly in March, when its vertiginous twists are bathed in a daily average eight hours of sun. Cliffs plunge into the Tyrrhenian Sea, topped with grand palazzos and smart hotels. Narrow, Roman lanes are stuffed with limoncello stalls flogging the boozy spoils of Sorrento's famous fruit. Its snoozy air and pastel-coloured houses are pure Italian cinema: you might even swear you've seen a young Sophia Loren looking impossibly saucy by the quay. Do as the Italians do and spend the lazy, romantic days enjoying a long aperitivo . Don't miss fresh fritto misto at Marina Grande, the town's old fishing harbour, or Michelin-starred Il Buco in the cellars of an old monastery, where chef Peppe Aversa serves seasonal ingredients under a stone-hewn, vaulted ceiling. A roof over their head: Churches use tiny homes for homeless - ABC News

Image
Churches across the U.S. are tackling the big question of how to address homelessness in their communities with a small solution: tiny homes. On vacant plots near their parking lots and steepled sanctuaries, congregations are building everything from fixed and fully contained micro homes to petite, moveable cabins, and several other styles of small-footprint dwellings in between. Church leaders are not just trying to be more neighborly. The drive to provide shelter is rooted in their beliefs — they must care for the vulnerable, especially those without homes. "It's just such an integral part of who we are as a people of faith," said the Rev. Lisa Fischbeck, former Episcopal vicar and the board chair of Pee Wee Homes, an affordable housing organization building tiny abodes in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Fischbeck led the Episcopal Church of the Advocate when it added three one-bedroom units on its 15-acre campus. The first residents, including the organization's names...

AG Shapiro Files Criminal Charges Against Lycoming County Contractor Ripping Off Consumers - Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General

Image
HARRISBURG–Attorney General Josh Shapiro today announced that his office filed charges against contractor Michael Bloom of Williamsport, PA. Bloom entered into contracts with six Pennsylvania residents to install elevators in their homes. He took deposits from the six homeowners, but never followed through with the installations. "The law is clear on this," said AG Shapiro. "Contractors can't enter into a contract, accept money from a homeowner, and then fail to deliver — and that's just what Bloom did. He pocketed $86,110 from his clients and did none of the work he promised. That's theft, and my office won't stand for it, we're taking action to get Pennsylvanians their money back." Five of the homeowners left in the lurch by Bloom were over 60 years old. In all six cases, Bloom took deposits and provided little or no services in return. When residents requested refunds, Bloom refused to return the deposits. Bloom has been charged with 37 ...
