Where to go on holiday in March 2023 - Condé Nast Traveller

Image
Temperature: 19°C high; 13°C low Season: spring Travel time from UK: 2 hours 35 minutes Time difference: GMT +1 Nothing brings a spring to the step quite like the sight of Italy's glorious Amalfi coast. Particularly in March, when its vertiginous twists are bathed in a daily average eight hours of sun. Cliffs plunge into the Tyrrhenian Sea, topped with grand palazzos and smart hotels. Narrow, Roman lanes are stuffed with limoncello stalls flogging the boozy spoils of Sorrento's famous fruit. Its snoozy air and pastel-coloured houses are pure Italian cinema: you might even swear you've seen a young Sophia Loren looking impossibly saucy by the quay. Do as the Italians do and spend the lazy, romantic days enjoying a long aperitivo . Don't miss fresh fritto misto at Marina Grande, the town's old fishing harbour, or Michelin-starred Il Buco in the cellars of an old monastery, where chef Peppe Aversa serves seasonal ingredients under a stone-hewn, vaulted ceiling. FACT SHEET: President Biden's Plan to Respond to Putin's Price Hike at the Pump - The White House

Image
Americans face rising prices at the pump because of Putin's Price Hike.  Since Putin accelerated his military build-up around Ukraine, gas prices have increased by nearly a dollar per gallon.  Because of Putin's war of choice, less oil is getting to market, and the reduction in supply is raising prices at the pump for Americans.  President Biden is committed to doing everything in his power to help American families who are paying more out of pocket as a result.  That is why today, President Biden will announce a two-part plan to ease the pain that families are feeling by increasing the supply of oil starting immediately and achieving lasting American energy independence that reduces demand for oil and bolsters our clean energy economy.  Immediately Increasing Supply At the start of this year, gas was about $3.30 a gallon.  Today, it's over $4.20, an increase of nearly $1.  And now, a significant...

In search of a unique property in Maine? How about a monolithic dome home on the Road to Misery? - Press Herald

Image
Down the dirt Road to Misery in the picturesque seaside town of Kennebunkport, a gray house is nestled between ledge outcroppings, next to an idyllic pasture where bluebirds nest. The house, which appears in current real estate listings ,  isn't like any other on the market. It is a one-of-a-kind monolithic dome, shaped somewhat like a bowler hat, hand-built in 2003 by Maine sculptor Daphne Pulsifer and her family in 2003. And it is for sale for $690,000, along with the 43 acres that surround it. As for the ominous name of that road where it sits, which might give a prospective buyer pause, it's just a family joke that always elicits laughter, said Pulsifer, because driving down it brings you the opposite of misery. It brings you to "your own magical place." The house may be unlike anything most folks have seen in Maine, but the story of how it came to be is simple, Pulsifer said. Her husband, Daniel Bates, dreamt of building a c...

Why You Should Buy Pre-Construction Homes Today - Benzinga - Benzinga

Image
By Gil Dezer, President of Dezer Development With today's market conditions, the biggest question on real estate asked -- When is the best time to make a home purchase? And the answer is simple. Today. Why buy a pre-construction home in today's market? The reason you want to buy a home in today's pre-construction market is because all economic indicators are pointing towards an increase in prices across the board. Due to supply chain issues, creating a shortage on supplies while the demand holds steady plus a record high level of inflation it is easy to forecast the upward trend in costs to produce.  Additionally, the rising cost of labor, caused by the current administration increasing the minimum wage, puts upward pressure on cost of labor from minimum wage earners up to executives; putting the risk on the developer to deliver the homes 5 years from now at today's market values. All indicators are showing a cost increase bo...

House remodel wins raves from Palm Beach panel. But what are the neighbors saying? - Palm Beach Daily News

Image
A remodeling project won't raise the height of a house at 250 Sandpiper Drive, yet neighbors question the "two story" label attached to its code-variance request. A remodeling project to transform a 1980s-era house on the North End by giving its exterior South African-inspired architecture with Dutch Colonial-style decorative gables has won the enthusiastic support of the Palm Beach Architectural Commission.  "I think it's an absolute smash hit," Commissioner John David Corey said about the project designed for 250 Sandpiper Drive during its initial review at the board's Wednesday meeting.  His colleagues agreed, describing the design as "attractive," "charming," "beautiful," "divine" and "fabulous" before unanimously approving the architecture and landscaping. They also endorsed a code-variance request related to the project.  "I'll pile on the praisi...

Tiny House Cost: A Guide - Zing! Blog by Quicken Loans

Costs To Consider When Building A Tiny Home Building a tiny house is an ambitious endeavor, so there's a lot to consider before you start your project. How big will your tiny home be? Is it going to be mobile or fixed to a foundation? What kind of amenities do you need for it to be livable? These questions will impact the overall design of your home as well as the budget you'll need to bring it to life, so let's take a look at each factor in more detail. The Land In order to build a home, you'll need the land to build it on. Depending on where you live, local zoning laws may dictate how and where your house can be built. For example, it's illegal in many areas of the U.S. to place your tiny house on a friend's or family member's property for free. If you choose to forgo a permanent foundation and instead build your tiny house on wheels, you can save yourself from having to purchase land; however, you'll still have to pay a decent amount i...

Luxury home designs go high-tech - Las Vegas Review-Journal

Image
Luxury home design is trending "smart." Big-screen televisions roll up vertically and hide in a piece of furniture. Intelligent toilets greet visitors with classical music, while automatically opening the lid. Smart ovens can be controlled from anywhere in the world. All these examples illustrate some of the latest smart home automation innovations available for ultra-efficient, comfortable luxury living environments while reducing energy costs. "Technology is proliferating into every aspect of our lives and all products," Sun West Custom Homes owner Dan Coletti said. "It's starting to go into the simplest things." A luxury builder in Vegas for more than 30 years, Coletti has seen technology evolve and change significantly as it advances into every room of the home. The pandemic further advanced the need, and desire, for technology to augment remote learning, working and healthier living environments. Circadian lighting systems and powerful a...

Veteran realty executive Jennifer Keller starts homebuilding company in the COVID era - Houston Chronicle

Image
Three years ago, veteran realty executive Jennifer Keller was charged with establishing homebuilding operations in Houston and potentially other Texas markets for William Lyons Homes, a publicly traded builder in California that gained a presence in Texas through the acquisition of RSI Communities in Austin. Keller left her job as president and chief operating officer of Land Tejas, a Houston developer of master planned communities, to take on the new role. The assignment was short-lived. William Lyons Homes was acquired by Taylor Morrison Homes Corp. in Feb. 2020 in a nearly $2.2 billion transaction. Keller stayed on through the transition, leaving in April 2020 just as the coronavirus pandemic began to shake up the housing market. Now, with backing from private investors, Keller is drawing on her expertise across homebuilding and land development — as well as contacts from 25 years in the industry — to start a new company. Hamilton Thomas Homes, which is named for her s...
